Official Launch of Trailblazer Guides: South Downs Way App

We have partnered with Trailblazer Guides, an England-based hiking and adventure guide company, to create app companions to its series of British Walking Guides. Our first Trailblazer app is for the gorgeous and charming South Downs Way, a 100-mile walking/biking/equestrian National Trail in southwest England. Trailblazer Guides is known for its highly detailed guides and it diverse array of guides for all types of adventurers. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with this fine establishment. The app is available now in for Android and for iPhone/iPad.

Guthook’s Guide to the Continental Divide Trail coming soon

We couldn’t be more excited to announce a partnership with Jerry Brown of Bear Creek Survey Service to build a series of apps for the Continental Divide Trail. We are working fast and furious to get the apps done in time for the CDT Class of 2014 hikers. The apps will be available for iPhone (from our partner Guthook Hikes) and Android.

Updates to Guthook’s Guide: PCT SoCal and PCT Demo Released

We are in the process of updating our catalog of Android hiking apps for the 2014 season. Today we have released an update to the Southern California segment of our popular Guthook’s Guide to the Pacific Crest Trail series. New updates include:

  • Choose metric or English units for distance (meters/miles) and elevation (meters/feet)
  • Tenting and water sources plotted on elevation profile
  • Searchable Guidebook
  • Choice to download small, medium or large set of topo maps for offline use
  • Ability to delete off-line topo maps or reduce a large map set to a smaller set

Pacific Northwest Trail App In the Works

We are thrilled to be working with the Pacific Northwest Trail Association and with Tim Youngbluth, author of the essential Pacific Northwest Trail Digest hiking guide, to develop a hiking guide app for the Pacific Northwest Trail.  Jon Knechtel, PNTA Director of Trail Management, and Youngbluth are enthusiastic supporters of the app development effort. Release of the “PNT Hiker” is slated in time for the 2014 hiking season. The Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail is a 1200-mile trail running from the Continental Divide in Montana to the Pacific Ocean in Washington. Along the way it crosses 3 National Parks and 7 National Forests.

Tahoe Rim Trail Hiker Released for Android

Our newest trail guide, Tahoe Rim Trail Hiker, is now available in the Google Play Store. A free demo version, Tahoe Rim Trail Hiker: DEMO, is a fully-functional version of the app that covers Tahoe City to Brockway section (20 miles). Tahoe Rim Trail Hiker covers the entire 173-mile Tahoe Rim Trail and has over 500 waypoints and over 1,000 photos.  Tahoe Rim Trail Hiker for iPhone will be released soon in the iTunes App Store by our partner Guthook Hikes. UPDATE: Tahoe Rim Trail Hiker for iPhone is now available.

High Sierra Attitude and Guthook Hikes Partner with ALDHA

The Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association, or ALDHA, is as excited about hiking apps as we are. This summer High Sierra Attitude and our partner Guthook Hikes entered into a partnership with ALDHA with the aim of providing the best information available to Appalachian Trail hikers.  High Sierra Attitude and Guthook Hikes will each donate to ALDHA a portion of proceeds from sale of all AT Hiker apps. ALDHA, which publishes the Appalachian Trail Thru-Hikers’ Companion, will work with us to coordinate AT data. Check out the Autumn 2013 edition of ALDHA’s The Long Distance Hiker to learn more.

AT Hiker Series Complete

We are happy to announce that the full line of AT Hiker apps — from Springer Mountain to Mount Katahdin — is now available in the Google Play Store.  In partnership with Guthook Hikes LLC, High Sierra Attitude has rolled out this popular series of Appalachain Trail hiking guides over the summer of 2013. Ryan Linn, owner and founder of Guthook Hikes, has released the  AT Hiker series for iPhone.
